A soothing neonatal lullaby

05 Apr 2019 - Press Release

Tiny patients at Stepping Hill Hospital’s neonatal  unit and their families were treated to some magical music thanks to a musical charity.

Known as the ‘Lullaby Hour’, the music helps the babies and children to settle and offer them comfort and joy, through gentle, beautiful lullaby songs that can be personalised for each child. The Lullaby Hour also offers anxious parents and families comfort too.

The neonatal visit was from classical guitarist Amy Bowles, who has also played on the hospital’s intensive care unit. The visits are thanks to the Music In Hospitals & Care charity which funds musical visits across the country.  The Scottish Power Foundation have helped to fund the first visit to the neonatal unit this year, with further visits planned from the help of the hospital’s own charitable fund.

Jess Ingham, Director of Music In Hospitals and Care North said “We are delighted to be introducing regular Lullaby Hour sessions at the neonatal unit at Stepping Hill Hospital. Gentle lullabies and melodies will be played to help create a calm and soothing atmosphere at the unit.”

Neonatal sister Pam Hardy said “The music Amy played for babies was truly beautiful, really soothing for both the babies and their mums and dads. This was a lovely visit and really appreciated by all of us.”
