Our hospital radio station is ‘Radio Starlion’, which is run entirely by volunteers for the benefit of patients.
Stepping Hill Hospital is equipped with a system which provides radio, television, and interactive services to most beds. Radio Starlion is one of the options.
Radio Starlion broadcasts 24 hours a day, with record-request programmes their most popular programming. They visit the hospital wards, meet and chat with patients and collect record requests and dedications.
The station was originally founded in 1977 by the Stockport Lions Club, the local branch of the largest community service organisation in the world. It is now independent of the club.
