Stockport NHS Foundation Trust’s catering team have had its high standards recognised once again a shortlisting for a national award.
The team are finalists in the ‘Hospital Catering’ category at this year’s Public Sector Catering Awards, which look out for the very best in the industry.
The team, including chefs and catering assistants, provides quality food for both Stepping Hill Hospital’s inpatients on the wards, and for staff, visitors and outpatients in its restaurant.
Preparing appetising meals, high quality ingredients, good presentation and reducing waste are all part of the team’s daily routine, which have gone towards being shortlisted for the award.
Their aim is to ensure patients, visitors and staff received high standards of nutrition. They also provide food and recipes from around the world, with special menus developed for theme days including religious, cultural, and other celebrations.
The team have triumphed at the Public Sector Catering Awards in previous years, as well as receiving other awards, including the title of ‘exemplar site’ from NHS England for other catering teams to follow. Last year, their apprentice chef Joe Omolo was the joint winner of the title ‘NHS Chef of the Year’.
Stockport NHS Foundation Trust Director of Estates and Facilities Gareth Hughes said; “It’s great to see the hard work and high standards of our catering team being recognised once again at Public Sector Catering Awards. It’s a much deserved testament to their dedication and expertise, and we wish them all the best for the awards evening in London.”
The Public Sector Catering Awards celebrate the best standards in catering in areas including healthcare, education, care homes, councils, universities, the armed forces and catering colleges. The Stockport NHS team are one of seven finalists in their category, and one of only nine NHS organisations shortlisted on the evening.
The winners of the awards will be announced at the London Metropole Hotel on Thursday 9th April.
