Doctor on the run and on the draw for Stockport NHS Charity

30 Jan 2026 - Press Release

A Stepping Hill Hospital doctor recently ran 10K in support of Stockport NHS Charity, and is now getting to repeat the feat.

Dr Nidhi Kakkar ran the Stockport Daffodil 10K as the first of twelve in the year, as she has challenged herself to take part in one running event for every month in 2026 to make a difference.

Not all the runs will be in the UK; her next stop being the Burj Khalifa Half Marathon in Dubai during February.

For the Stockport Daffodil run, she braved the winter cold of just 2 degrees Celsius to make it through to the end.

Nidhi works as a resident medical fellow doctor at the hospital’s department of medicine for older people, where she has been based for over two years.

Not content with being a busy working doctor and running in her spare time, Nidhi is also a talented artist too.  In recent months she has been selling pictures which have also been raising funds for Stockport NHS Charity.

Nidhi began running as a part of her weight loss journey and she has shed an amazing 71 kgs (11 stone) in the process. She is veteran of numerous runs over the years, including full marathons for which she has run raising money for numerous charities.

Now she is concentrating her fundraising efforts for Stockport NHS Charity, which supports Stepping Hill Hospital and local community NHS services, helping them to deliver services for patients above and beyond ordinary standards.

Recent projects supported by the charity include newly renovated rooms the in neonatal unit to enable new mums and dads to stay next to baby during challenging times, a new therapy garden providing an outside space for rehabilitation and mental health benefits for patients, and dementia friendly blue crockery helping patients to see their food better, encouraging them to eat more, helping them gain strength.

Stockport NHS Charity Manager Kate Leadbeater said ; “We are so grateful to Dr Nidhi Kakkar’s amazing fundraising efforts, in both her running and her fantastic artwork she really has gone the extra mile. All the funds that go towards our charity will make a real difference for patients. If you have secured a place in a run or challenge in 2026 and would like to take this opportunity to make a real difference, we’d love to hear from you!”
