Show goes on as Patricia Routledge gives tickets to Stepping Hill Hospital staff

16 Nov 2017 - Press Release

National treasure Dame Patricia Routledge made good on her pledge that the show must go on after having to cancel her appearance in July’s Buxton International Festival because of a fall, and she made sure Stepping Hill Hospital staff could enjoy it too.

Patricia, best known as Hyacinth Bucket in ‘Keeping Up Appearances’ was taken to A&E at Stepping Hill Hospital, and later Buxton Hospital following her fall. Patricia was so pleased with the care she received that she offered free tickets to staff at both hospitals for her rescheduled show ‘Facing the Music’ show at Buxton Opera House on Friday 17th November, in which she recounts her past in musical theatre in conversation with BBC music expert Edward Seckerson.

“I can’t praise the services of the NHS too highly,” said Patricia, who was in conversation with BBC music expert Edward Seckerson. “They were marvellous. I’m thrilled that the Festival has found a spot for us so we are able to come back so soon. It’s a very important festival and embraces so much.”

Before the snobbish Hyacinth Bouquet terrorised the nation, Dame Patricia was a singer who had great success in musical theatre, both in this country and on Broadway, winning Tony and Olivier awards for performances in shows such as Darling for the Day, Candide and Carousel.

Alison Lynch, Director of Nursing and Quality said “We are delighted that Patricia was so happy with the care we gave her after her fall,  and it’s great that she’s now back on her feet. The free tickets for our staff are a lovely gesture which were really appreciated.”
