Charity celebration and thanks for improved staff facilities at new care campus

06 Sep 2024 - Press Release

A celebration has been held for new improved staff facilities at Stepping Hill Hospital’s new emergency and urgent care campus, with a show of thanks for Stockport NHS Charity for supporting them with funding.

Stockport NHS Foundation Trust board members and representatives from building contractors Tilbury Douglas joined staff in being shown around the new accommodation.

The modern accommodation includes bigger workspaces, new rest areas, and locker, shower and changing facilities too.

The new facilities, which are already in use, are designed to enhance team collaboration, professional development, and overall staff wellbeing.

The facilities were made possible with the support of Stockport NHS Charity, which helps to improve the health and wellbeing of both patients and staff in Stepping Hill Hospital local community NHS services above and beyond ordinary standards.  A plaque giving thanks for the charity was unveiled at the celebration.

The opening marks another milestone in the development in the new emergency and urgent care campus to enhance local care.

The new accommodation is part of a larger project that includes extensive remodelling of the emergency department, with 2,600 square meters of refurbished space and 1,300 square meters of new build facilities, with a focus on creating new assessment, treatment, and consultation areas.

These improvements will serve key emergency and urgent care services, including the children’s emergency department, mental health services, and same-day emergency care. Additionally, the ambulance drop-off area has been redesigned for better accessibility and efficiency.

Jackie McShane, Executive Director of Operations for Stockport NHS Foundation Trust said: “It was fantastic to both see and celebrate these new facilities. They’re already providing a greatly improved environment from which our emergency and urgent care colleagues can provide care for our patients. We’d like to say a big thank you to our estates and capital project colleagues, Tilbury Douglas, and Stockport NHS Charity for making this possible.”

Phil Shaw, Managing Director – Building North at Tilbury Douglas said: "As a key NHS partner, our expertise in healthcare allows us to create spaces that truly meet the needs of medical professionals. The new staff accommodation at Stepping Hill Hospital exemplifies our commitment to supporting staff wellbeing and maintaining the high standards of care that the NHS is known for."
