Stockport NHS Charity runners ready for the Manchester 10K

20 May 2024 - Press Release

Plenty of runners are ready to take on the Manchester 10K Run this May, and supporting Stockport NHS Charity while doing so.

Those running for the charity includes Stockport NHS Foundation Trust colleagues from departments across both Stepping Hill Hospital and the community, and also friends and supporters who are grateful for the care they and their families have received.

Stockport NHS Charity helps to improve the health and wellbeing of patients by in the hospital and community by delivering services above and beyond ordinary standards.

The charity have recently supported specialist chairs for Bluebell Ward. The chairs will be used daily, providing comfort and support to help our patients with posture pain reduction and recovery. In addition the charity recently proudly upgraded family rooms in Neonatal Unit. The homely rooms with comfortable beds will provide much needed rest for parents. Sleeper chairs make in to a single bed and are easily moved to the nursery to sleep next to baby.

One of the runners is Dr Nidhi Kakkar, who has been working as a junior medical fellow doctor at Stepping Hill Hospital’s department of medicine for older people for just over a year. She is a veteran of numerous runs, including full marathons and has run for numerous charities, but this is her first time for Stockport NHS Charity. She is looking forward to supporting future projects for her colleagues and patients.

Another runner is Steve Grace, who doesn’t work for Stockport NHS, although his wife Jo does, in the Staff Psychological support service. Steve is running not just to support his wife, but to show thanks for their care he was given by emergency teams when he injured his back two years ago, and for their daughter Beth being born with the support of the maternity team back in 2008. Both Jo and Beth took part last year, so he’s giving it a go this time.

And third is senior public health nurse Jan Sinclair, who is helping to organise her colleagues. After starting to help a family member with their fitness levels, running has been a key part of Jan’s life for 26 years. She is looking forward to supporting and helping enhance future patient care at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.

The run takes place on Sunday 26th May. If you’d like to contribute to any of Nidhi, Steve or Jan, see the links below.
