A Stockport NHS team dedicated to helping patients manage their pain has been received for a national award in recognition and support of their innovative approach.

The Stockport Pain Management Team have been for an award by Q for their `Your Pain Journey` project, which is improving both patient and clinician access to up-to-date, effective pain management.

Receiving the award from Q, which is backed by the Heath Foundation charity and other health partners including NHS England and Improvement to help share ideas and provide support for the latest in innovative health projects, also means they are helping to fund the project with a £39,000 donation.

‘Your Pain Journey’ aims to inform and educate, promoting self-care and self-management and empowering people to make informed choices about the best management of their pain. It allows people living with pain to be in control of their lives, not be controlled by it, and ensures they have access to the latest pain management advice and support.

The project will benefit around 36,000 people in Stockport live with moderate to severe pain affecting their function, along with those in the High Peak and nearby areas.  The team are currently working with patients, carers and stakeholders to obtain their input and feedback into providing a service which will suit their needs. The service improvements and changes are planned to be implemented for patients next year.
