The team which runs clinical audits for Stockport NHS Foundation Trust have been judged as the best in the country with a national award.  

The Stockport NHS Foundation Trust clinical audit team were nominated and won the title of ‘Clinical Audit Team of the Year 2022’ by reiving the trophy from the Clinical Audit Support Centre.

The clinical audit team facilitate audits for Stepping Hill Hospital and community services in Stockport.

A clinical audit is a process or cycle of events that help ensure patients receive the right care and the right treatment. This is done by measuring the care and services provided against evidence standards, and ensuring changes are made to narrow the gap between existing practice, and what is known to be best practice.

Stockport NHS Foundation Trust has 12 staff on in its clinical audit team, registering around 300 projects and facilitating on average 180 clinical audits a year. The team received their award at the very first national awards run by the Clinical Audit Support Centre, which works across the UK to support audits help improve the delivery and safety of healthcare for patients.

The Stockport team were recognised for being passionate about improving care and for facing and overcoming internal staffing disruption in recent times. They were praised for holding regular events to showcase the importance of clinical audits, for implementing new management and tracking software, and for time devoted to chair the local regional clinical audit network.
