A wide array of events and activities were held at Stepping Hill Hospital during the national Dementia Action Week at Stepping Hill Hospital to highlight support both for people living with dementia, and those caring for them.

Therapeutic and activity sessions, including musical therapy, were held for patients living with dementia during the week, with support from the catering team who provided a number of tasty treats.  Training sessions were also provided over the week to ensure colleagues were up-to-date with all the latest support and awareness.

Stockport NHS Foundation Trust’s dementia champions were also on hand to promote themselves. Dementia champions are staff members who have taken additional training on care for patients living with the condition, and who help to support their colleagues with this.

Volunteers from the Alzheimer’s Society were also available in the hospital’s serenity room to offer information and advice.

The hospital’s serenity room is a permanent feature at the hospital; decorated and with support material to aid reminiscence which can be calming for many with dementia, the room offers welcome respite and relaxation for both people living with dementia and those who care for them.
