Music star support for Stockport NHS Charity – Imelda and Mani Mounfield’s big fundraiser

14 Nov 2022 - Press Release

Stockport NHS Charity is receiving some sensational fundraising support thanks to Imelda Mounfield and her husband Mani, best known to the world as the bass-player in the Stone Roses.

They are hosting a sold-out fundraising musical extravaganza at The Kimpton Clocktower Hotel Ballroom on Friday 18th November, which will include an auction of amazing memorabilia from celebrities.

Proceeds from the evening and auction will go towards Stockport NHS Charity and the Christie charity, as their way of showing thanks for the treatment Imelda has received for her cancer at both Stepping Hill Hospital and the Christie hospital.

Generous stars from Manchester and beyond have donated an incredible array of items for the auction. They include including David Beckham`s signed football boots, worn at his last ever match for PSG in May 2013; John Squire`s hand-painted and signed Hofner guitar;  a Stone Roses gold disc, Noel Gallagher`s personal 6 x Platinum `What`s the Story Morning Glory` album presentation framed discs, signed discs from Johnny Marr,  guitars from the Foo Fighters, The Who and Peter Hook; and Liam Gallagher`s personal NME Gold award.

This auction will be available both for guests at the Kimpton event, and also to others worldwide online. It will be arranged by Adam Partridge Auctioneers & Valuers of Macclesfield, Cheshire. Adam is a familiar face on TV, having appeared as an expert on Bargain Hunt, Cash in the Attic, Dickinson`s Real Deal and Flog it!

The sold-out fundraising event at the Kimpton Tower will be introduced by the Greater Manchester Mayor, Andy Burnham, who has given his support to the event and auction.

Hosted by musician, writer and broadcaster John Robb, the event will feature DJ sets from Mani himself, Clint Boon and Luke Una, with live performances from Rowetta, Danielle Moore (Crazy P), the Tall Faces and other unannounced guests. Plus, Manchester`s Art Battle will provide some live art, with finished artwork auctioned on the night. There will also be the opportunity to win many fantastic raffle prizes donated by bands, footballers, actors, venues and promoters.

Karen James OBE, Chief Executive for the Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, said, "We`re hugely grateful to Imelda and Mani`s efforts in organising this fundraising event and auction. We`re proud of the care Imelda and many others with cancer have received at Stepping Hill Hospital. This fundraiser for our charity is a really touching display of her thanks, which will help us go on to support more patients in the future."

Louise Stimson, Head of Fundraising at The Christie charity, said:" `We`re really touched that Imelda`s experiences as a patient have spurred her and Mani into action for our charity, helping us provide more support to patients like her. Mani obviously has legendary status in Manchester, and I`m sure all their plans will result in a legendary event and auction too."

This event also happens during Mani`s birthday week, so it will be a night of celebrations as well as fundraising. Mani says "When life deals you a pair of twos, you have to get your game face on! These past two years since Imelda`s diagnosis have been brutal in so many ways, but it`s also opened our eyes to so many things as well. This disease needs to be eradicated ~ we feel duty-bound to do our bit to achieve this. So, everybody get on board, dig deep, help out. We will win!"

Stockport NHS Charity exists to improve the health and wellbeing of patients in both Stepping Hill Hospital and local community services by delivering services above and beyond ordinary standards.
