Top award for Stockport Pain Management Nurses

Two Stepping Hill Hospital senior clinical nurse specialists in acute pain management have been recognised nationally, and awarded the joint award of acute pain nurse of the year at the National Acute Pain symposium awards 2019 at the Bridgewater Hall Manchester.

Jill Hulme-Duvall and Colette Wharton were named as Acute Pain Nurses of the Year at the National Acute Pain Awards 2019 which celebrate the best in acute pain management across the country.

Jill and Colette are clinical nurse specialists at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust’s acute pain service, based at the hospital. Jill and Colette have many years nursing experience both started their nurse training in 1984 at Stockport school of Nursing. Jill has worked as a specialist nurse since the acute pain service commenced in 1993, Colette joined the service in 2009. They provide plans, prescribe and implement care and treatment options for both medical and surgical inpatients experiencing acute pain, and also educate patients, nurses and the multidisciplinary team in acute pain management.

They were recognised for going above and beyond in their roles to ensure that complex patients who need extra support are identified and  appropriate pain management strategies implemented.

Jill and Collette received their awards at the National Acute Pain Symposium 2019 in Bridgewater Hall, Manchester which is the largest acute pain meeting in  the UK and the longest running acute pain meeting in the world.

Alison Lynch, Chief Nurse and Director of Quality Assurance at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust said “Those suffering from acute pain are some of our most vulnerable patients, and both Jill and Colette do an exceptional job in supporting them and giving them the support and relief they need. I’m thrilled for them to have received these awards in recognition of their excellence.”
