Stepping Hill Hospital’s promotion for NHS staff to always introduce themselves by name has been boosted with a visit from the national campaign leader.

The ‘Hello, My Name Is’ campaign was the idea of Dr Kate Granger, who was both an NHS doctor and a cancer patient from Yorkshire. During her treatment she noticed staff did not always introduce themselves. Kate believed that introductions were vital, not just for courtesy, but also as part of establishing a connection with a patient.

In 2013 Kate began ‘Hello My Name Is’ with the support of her husband Chris Pointon, and it had a huge impact across the country. Stockport NHS Foundation Trust staff, working in both Stepping Hill Hospital and the community, have embraced the campaign.

Kate sadly died in 2016, and since then Chris Pointon has taken lead for the campaign. Chris was welcomed to Stepping Hill Hospital with a display of how staff are keeping up the message. Chris said “It’s been a pleasure to the staff at Stepping Hill Hospital really get behind Hello, My Name Is, they’ve done Kate, myself and the campaign proud.”
