A newly qualified health visitor in Stockport has won the national title of Health Visitor Student of the Year. 

Michelle Clay received the honour from the Journal of Health Visiting, where exceptional candidates are nominated from across the UK. 

Michelle was singled out for her insightful and sensitive approach, and her support for colleagues both personally and professionally. She also produced an outstanding presentation on health visiting for Unicef which was displayed nationally.

Having completed her training in Tameside, Michelle now looks after the local people of the Offerton district of Stockport.

Maura Appleby, service manager for health visiting at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, said,  “Our health visitors perform a vital role in the community for people in and around their homes, helping to prevent illness and support people with their conditions. Michelle has already proven herself as outstanding in that role we are all delighted has been recognised as the best health visitor student in the country.  I’m sure she will provide excellent care in Stockport for many years to come.”
