Apprenticeships

We are committed to training and development on an on-going basis. You will have an annual performance appraisal with your manager once a year and work with them to develop a personal development plan. This plan will include the training you will undertake at the purpose built Pinewood House education and training centre on our flagship Stepping Hill site, in a community location or with an external provider.

We expect all our staff to deliver care that is of the highest standard. We support our staff to deliver excellent care by ensuring that they have access to mandatory training which gives them important information on topics which directly impact on patient safety. This is delivered in a variety of ways including face to face, e-learning and videos.

All new staff attend a comprehensive induction programme, starting on the first day of employment at Corporate Welcome. All participants are welcomed to the Trust by the Chief Executive or a member of the Board and then given the essential information required to work at the Trust, including much of the mandatory training required for their role.

In addition all new staff, including bank and agency staff complete a local induction within four weeks of their first day of employment. This is completed with their line manager and gives them awareness of local arrangements and mandatory training requirements.

If you do choose to move on to work elsewhere in the future we want you to do that with better skills and qualifications than when you joined us. To find out more contact our training and development team on 0161 419 4956.

Leadership and Coaching

Effective leadership is essential to leading services here at Stockport. We provide a number of programmes to develop key leadership behaviours and skills across all levels of management.

We provide access to coaching and mentoring to support and develop our staff. These tools can be accessed when changing roles, to manage change, improve performance, develop skills and manage behaviours.

Appraisals

We expect all employees at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust to receive an annual appraisal at which they discuss their performance over the previous year with their line manager. Clear objectives are set at appraisal so that individuals and their manager know what they will be working on over the coming months. At Stockport, the way that people behave and interact with each other is an important part of the appraisal process, we expect all our staff to work to the Stockport way, demonstrating, our values, patient centred approach, accountable and collaborative and empowered.

Appraisal is also an opportunity to discuss personal development needs and to agree education and training objectives for the coming year. As a Teaching Hospital, we expect and support all our staff to develop their skills.

At an appraisal employees and managers should agree the employee`s training needs and how they will be achieved to ensure continuous personal development through an agreed Personal Development Plan.
