Patient helps endoscopy equipment fund

08 Nov 2017 - Press Release

A grateful patient at Stepping Hill Hospital generously donated £500 to help buy specialist equipment for the endoscopy service.

Linda Carnall from Whaley Bridge in the High Peak underwent a colonoscopy test at the hospital earlier this year, after a pre-cancerous growth was discovered. She is still under observation but thankfully she has been given the all clear.

As a ‘thank you’ for the care she received from the endoscopy team, Linda and her husband Philip donated towards a new ScopeGuide medical device.

The ScopeGuide will help patients who are undergoing undergo complex procedures such as colonoscopies - which look at the lining of the large bowel to check for bowel cancer, ulcers or growths – by making these examinations quicker, easier and more comfortable. The current equipment is fully effective, but the Scopeguide represents an improvement.

Linda Carnall said, “Everyone in the endoscopy team was so very comforting and supportive to me when I was having my colonoscopy. I wanted to thank them with this donation for the scope fund, so they can provide even more comfort and reassurance for patients in the future. I would urge others to support the fund too.”

Consultant gastroenterologist Dr Colin Kong from the hospital’s endoscopy team said “We are proud of the care, treatment and support we offer as an endoscopy team, but this will help us to go that little bit further for the patient. Current equipment used by the service is good but the Scopeguide will help us go above and beyond in enhancing the patient experience.”

The team needs £40,000 to buy the ScopeGuide which will help 7000 endoscopy patients a year. To donate then visit https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/scopeguidefund
