Innovative interns

Students on an internship scheme at Stepping Hill Hospital have celebrated a successful year’s work.

Ten interns with disabilities have worked in a variety of roles across the hospital, including in the cafes, shops, patient records department and training centre.

The internship project is a joint scheme between Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Stepping Hill Hospital, the Cheadle and Marple College Network, and Pure Innovations, a charity which helps disabled people live more independent lives.

The scheme is designed to give interns both confidence and work experience. Several of them are going straight into paid employment following their placement, both at the hospital and elsewhere.  One of these is 18 year old Mark Muskett now working in the maternity café run by hospitality company Host. Mark said, “I really enjoy the job, I’ve learned lots of new skills and made some new friends too. I’d like to thank Host, the hospital, the college and Pure Innovations for giving me this chance.”

Eleven new interns will be starting at the hospital in September 2017.
