Proud new dads can now stay overnight with their new born babies thanks to the latest facilities at Stepping Hill Hospital’s maternity centre.
If a mother stays overnight after giving birth, then her partner can join her too. The new facilities include recliners so that the father can stay by her side. There are also separate hotel-style rooms on offer as well, which have en suite shower and toilet, television, tea and coffee making facilities, and a comfortable bed.
New dad Ian Mylrea recently took advantage of the five-star facilities when his wife Emma gave birth to boy and girl twins Orry and Judy. Baby Judy had a mild lung infection and needed antibiotics, so the family needed to stay in for five days until she was up to full health.
Emma said, “When I gave birth to Orry and Judy I wanted us all to stay together, and it would have been a real disappointment if Ian had to go home. It was a huge support to have him around, both practically and emotionally. I’m so pleased Stepping Hill had the facilities to make this possible. It helped us to be a family together right from day one.”
The new guest rooms are part of a major recent renovation of the maternity unit which also included new birthing rooms with greater privacy and improved décor across the wards.
