A special screening session to help identify heart problems in younger people was held, when Stepping Hill Hospital’ opened its doors for a specialist charity visit.
The ECG (electrocardiogram) team at the hospital welcomed a visit from the Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) charity, who are helping to organise screenings across the country.
Every week in the UK at least 12 young people die of undiagnosed heart conditions. Since its formation in 1995, CRY has been working to reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD).
The event was a great success, with 199 out of 200, 14-35 year olds attending the department for their screen. The ECG team extended their thanks to all the staff at CRY for their hard work over the weekend and hope to host more events in the future.
The cost of a screening weekend is £16,000, with this and other sessions supported by the Aaron Dixon memorial fund of the Cry charity.
