Star Award for long-serving nurse

07 Nov 2024 - Press Release

A senior nurse in Stockport has received a top national award for her longstanding leadership and care for both patients and colleagues.

Carole Sparks was presented with the Cavell Star award, which is given in recognition of the best standards in nursing care and leadership across the country.

Carole is Assistant Chief Nurse for Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Stepping Hill Hospital and community NHS services across the region.

She began her nursing career in 1984, and joined Stockport NHS as a newly qualified staff nurse in 1988. She has now worked as a nurse in Stockport for 37 years, holding a number of positions including ward sister and clinical risk manager. She has held her current position for the past ten years.

Carole is described by colleagues as kind, caring and compassionate leader, always visible and approachable, and always willing to take the time to give support and coaching where it is needed. She has been especially supportive of colleagues experiencing particularly difficult times recently.

The Cavell Nurses Trust is a charity which supports nurses, midwives, nursing associates and healthcare assistants, providing grants, advice and a listening ear to those who may be experiencing difficulty. Its Star Awards are offered to outstanding members of these professions across the UK, who go above and beyond in their duties.

Helen Howard, Deputy Chief Nurse for Stockport NHS Foundation Trust said “I am really delighted that Carole has received the Cavell Star award, which she has truly earned. Carole wears her uniform with pride, and maintains and role models high standards at all times. Her wisdom is profound and she is always able to offer a good sounding board, as well as being a professional, dedicated valued member of the team. She has had an amazing career to date and continues to thrive in her role. Congratulations Carole!”
