The Stockport NHS Acute Pain Management team made a successful appearance at this year’s National Acute Pain Symposium (NAPS); the annual forum for pain specialist healthcare professionals from across the country  to work together and share good practice to improve the care of patients.

Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Harriet Lofthouse and Specialist Pharmacist Hannah Fenton won first prize and "People’s Choice" award in the poster presentation competition  for their poster ‘Reducing the opioid burden: introduction of a perioperative multidisciplinary pain clinic.’

 Elsewhere at the forum, Consultant David Crabtree and CNS Colette Wharton presented a session on ‘Patient experiences: Acute Pain After Knee Surgery’, and Consultant Anaesthetist Ugonna Chukwumaife on ‘Racial inequality in the experience and management of pain’, both of which were well received.

 Stockport’s acute pain team has both contributed to and had its successes recognised by NAPS a number of times in recent years, with Hannah Fenton receiving the Allied Healthcare Professional of the Year award at last year’s event.
