One of the famous Stockport frogs is being auctioned for Stockport NHS Charity, which is calling for local businesses and individuals to make a generous bid for their amphibious ally.
Fredison the frog was designed by artist local Toubie Jack, and was inspired by and themed around inventor Thomas Edison, who created the first light bulb in 1879, transforming the way people lived then and now.
Edison was inspired by the fireflies portrayed on Fredison’s belly. The frog will soon be auctioned off in early November to raise money for the charity.
Stockport NHS Charity is the local charity for Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, dedicated to supporting every aspect of care at Stepping Hill Hospital and across local NHS community services. The winning bid for Fredison will go towards projects which support the health and wellbeing of patients by delivering services above and beyond ordinary standards.
The Stockport frogs are the brainchild of Totally Stockport. 18 gigantic, brightly coloured frogs, with each vibrant design created and painted by a local artist to depict one of the world’s greatest inventions, were previously on display around the town centre as part of the Frogtastic Inventions Trail.
This is the third time the frogs have supported local health causes, with both the 2019 and 2021 trails together raising over £60,000.
The latest frogs are now leaping off to new homes, raising much needed funds for local charities and good causes. Managed by Stockport-based Simon Charles Auctioneers, the online auction is now open and live until 2nd November when the hammer will come down on final bids.
