Stockport NHS Charity for the NHS 75th

21 Jul 2023 - Press Release

Stockport NHS Charity, the official charity for Stepping Hill Hospital and local community NHS services, has been very busy during the period of the NHS 75th anniversary.

The activities so far have included a Cycle- a-thon, an NHS Big Tea Party and Bake Sale, a fun fundraising day, and a Silent Auction. The charity was also invited to take part in Hazel Grove Carnival. Long term supporter Derek Farndell ended his cycling fundraising endeavours for the charity by joining the Carnival Parade along with a Stockport NHS Charity wagon kindly supported by H. Whittaker & Sons, Macclesfield. A local jazz band joined the team on the wagon to add fabulous music.

Charity Manager Kate Leadbeater said “It’s been wonderful to meet so many people and hear personal stories about the great care people have received, and indeed feel the great love and affection for Stepping Hill Hospital in our community. Heartfelt thanks go to Derek Farndell for all his support over the years and also to Hazel Grove Carnival Committee for putting on such a wonderful event for our community and indeed for inviting us to be part of it”.

Stockport NHS Charity exists to enhance patient care at Stepping Hill Hospital and in the community.

Past projects have included funding a Stroke Rehabilitation Garden onsite at Stepping Hill Hospital where patients pot plants and take gentle exercise to help with their thinking, strength and stamina.

The charity also previously funded dementia orientation boards for wards, providing valuable information such as what day is it, the time and what the weather is like outside. This helps to reduce anxiety for patients living with dementia whilst receiving care.

If you would like to help the charity to enhance future patient care for local people by getting involved in a fun fundraising event, or indeed if you can spare a little time volunteering, then the charity would love to hear from you. To get in touch, e-mail kate.leadbeater@stockport.nhs.uk
