As the National Health Service marked it’s momentous 75th birthday, Stockport NHS Foundation Trust Chief Executive Karen James OBE joined colleagues for a celebration tea marking that birthday, and their birthday too.
Six colleagues who also share the birthday of July 5th joined her in the Stepping Hill Hospital restaurant for tea and cakes to mark the special occasion.
Colleagues included a consultant doctor, a dietitian, and those from pharmacy, IT and admin, showing a small selection of the diversity of colleagues who make up the NHS.
Stepping Hill Hospital and community services in Stockport have been part of the National Health Service ever since it began in July 5th 1948. The hospital was already there having been built in 1905, and joined the new service with its principle of providing care free at the point of delivery which continues today.
Stockport NHS Foundation Trust now has over 5000 staff working in both the hospital and community who continue to provide the best possible care for local people.
Staff joined in celebrations on the day including special fundraising events on site, ranging from a cycle-a-thon, silent auction, and other NHS Big Tea Parties.
Karen James said “It was a pleasure to spend time to have tea with some of our colleagues who share their birthdays with the big special day itself. We’re all immensely proud to be part of the National Health Service and its been wonderful to celebrate 75 years of this fantastic institution.”
