Thanking staff for Making a Difference

04 Jan 2022 - Press Release

Stockport NHS Foundation Trust are continuing to celebrate and reward individuals and teams who have gone above and beyond with the presentation of their ‘Making A Difference’ awards.

A healthcare assistant and hospital ward tracker are the latest to be honoured by the trust’s Chief Executive Karen James, as she visits staff across both Stepping Hill Hospital and community locations to thank those who have been performing excellently,  and providing outstanding care.

Ednaida Tipote is a healthcare assistant working on the hospital’s medical wards. An older patient was brought into the hospital by the community district nursing teams following a fracture. He was in a very distressed and confused state and would not eat or drink as he wanted to go home. Ednaida was able to calm and soothe the patient, and developed a great rapport with him as they sang Dame Vera Lynn’s timeless ‘We’ll Meet Again’ together. He agreed to eat again so that they could meet again, saying ‘You are my Vera Lynn’.   Community colleagues nominated Ednaida for her wonderful compassion in this case.

Daniel Marshall is a ward tracker at the hospital, whose role is to help organise and ensure the safe and effective discharge of patients. Colleagues describe him as passionate in his work, swift and efficient in helping patients to get back home, and always given the warmest possible support to patients and their families. The particular care and support he gave to one patient who had oesophageal cancer as Daniel helped to discharge him was singled out as an excellent example of his caring role and nature.

Award winners receive a certificate honouring their achievements, and spending vouchers too. The award scheme began last year and will continue into the new year.

Karen James OBE, Chief Executive for Stockport NHS Foundation Trust said “Staff across our services make a positive difference to patient’s lives everyday with their care and commitment. It’s an honour to show our thanks for those staff like Ednaida and Daniel who have gone the extra mile, and I look forward to presenting more of these much-deserved awards to staff in the future.”
