A commemorative service was held at St Paul’s Cathedral to celebrate the 73rd birthday of the NHS, and Stockport NHS Foundation Trust was represented at the ceremony.
Tracey Stockwell, the Head of Procurement for the trust which runs Stepping Hill Hospital and community services, attended the service which gave thanks for the efforts of all NHS staff during the COVID-19 pandemic of the past year.
Tracey led her team to manage the supplies of PPE and other vital equipment to the trust’s staff during the height of the pandemic, while undergoing her own chemotherapy treatment for cancer at the time. The service at St Paul’s was attended by Prince William the Duke of Cambridge who had previously contacted Tracey personally by phone earlier in the year to thank her for her outstanding efforts.
NHS staff from across the country attended the ceremony, and the service was also presented with the George Cross by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth on the same day, for their ‘courage, compassion and dedication’ over the last 73 years.
