Stepping Hill Hospital has installed new improved equipment for its surgical endoscopy team which help them get an even clearer view of their procedures.

The department now has a new set of state-of-the-art video processors and screens for use in endoscopy procedures which involve examining the interior of human organs to diagnose and treat a variety of conditions.The screens also have a new colonoscope for examination of the colon, which is more flexible, and has a wider camera angle to help improve diagnosis.

The screens have greatly improved definition to the equipment they replace, allowing the surgical endoscopy to get more pin-point accurate pictures of organs such as the gastro-intestinal tract, assisting them in both the examination and treatment of many conditions, from the removal of gallstones to diagnosis of cancer. There is also an additional screen so that the patient can see it too, enabling the team to explain procedures more easily and keeping the patient more informed about their care.

The equipment was installed at a cost of just over £300,000 to enhance the service of the endoscopy department, part of a wave of new investment planned for the department, which treats over 10,000 patients a year.

The sharper screens will give our team the edge in analysing conditions, and the screen for patients will help us to keep them informed and involved in their care and treatment as much as we can.”
