Stepping Hill Hospital maternity unit was able to show its latest services when it received an informal visit from the region’s top doctor.
Dr Richard Preece, the Director of Quality & Medicine for the Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership took a tour of the services with Chief Nurse Alison Lynch and Head of Midwifery and Women`s Health Janet Cotton.
It was a homecoming of sorts for Dr Preece who had trained at Stepping Hill Hospital as a student in the 1980s.
He saw how the unit was using the ‘red hat scheme’ to alert staff and parents of babies at risk of a low temperature, the ‘feedback bears’ – bear shaped cards which allow mothers to give comments on their care, and how the maternity team are helping home births in the High Peak area.
Dr Preece praised the care he saw and described the visit as “a really positive way to end the week.”
