A Stepping Hill Hospital trainer who always goes out of her way to support nursing students and learners has had her excellence recognised by The University of Manchester.
Carol Olivia Wilde received the title of ‘Practice Education Facilitator of the Year’ a the university’s annual ‘Recognising Excellence and Achievement’ awards which seek out the very best in support for nursing and midwifery students in the region.
In her role as practice education facilitator, Carol has supported hundreds of students through their training and placement at the hospital and in the community.
Carol makes herself available for her students both during working hours and after, and is known for always being available on the phone when she is needed. She received the testimony of a number of student trainee nurses she guided over the past year, including one whose husband had a terminal illness, and another who was supported through her own illness. “At my lowest moments, she was there to give me the confidence and support I needed, when everyone else had lost hope in me, to help me succeed on my placements.”
Alison Lynch, Chief Nurse at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust said “Student nurses need the best possible guidance and encouragement as they begin their career of care, so the support of practice education facilitators like Carol cannot be underestimated. She truly deserves her award.”
