We are a team of seven chaplains and nearly thirty volunteers. We can also call on representatives of many different faiths when required.
We support people in many different situations: feeling anxious or lonely, worried or in pain, or just needing to chat. We are often called on towards the end of life or to comfort people who are newly bereaved. All our conversations with patients or staff are confidential and pastorally sensitive.
The Hospital Chapel is located on the main corridor near to the main entrance. It is a place of quietness and calm, and is open every day: all are welcome to visit it to rest, reflect, meditate or pray. Next to the Chapel is a multi-faith Prayer Room equipped with washing facilities and prayer mats.
During the present coronavirus outbreak we are following guidance from the Trust and national religious organisations to minimise the risk of infection. There are no worship services in the chapel but the chaplains are still present `on site` during our normal working hours. We visit most wards in the hospital every week and we are happy to respond to requests for visits whenever possible. |
