About Our Service

Welcome to your placement! We hope you will have an enjoyable and valuable time with us. As Practice Education Facilitators (PEFs), we are responsible for quality assurance of all pre-registration placements with the Trust.

As practice education facilitators, we are here to provide help and support for all pre-registration health-care placements across both hospital and community settings. We work closely with all trust mentors/educators/supervisors, trust managers and University Colleagues, in order to ensure quality placement experiences.

We also take a lead on Inter-professional Learning developments for all pre-registration students within the Trust. Each term, we hold bespoke student ‘Trust Induction Sessions’, which all students on placement for longer than 4 weeks are required to attend.  (Alternatively, some AHP students may be booked onto the full-day Trust Induction).

The PEFs hold a short ‘Meet and Greet’ session each term (these are held immediately before the Student Induction), and all students are invited to attend. This session provides an opportunity for you to meet the PEFs and for us to help you to get the best out of your placement.

At the end of each term, we also hold ‘Student Evaluation Forums’.  This is an excellent opportunity for you and your student colleagues to meet together with the PEFs and provide helpful feedback from your placement.  It also provides an opportunity to nominate staff or teams for our incentive awards.

Our Expertise

All the Practice Education Facilitators at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust are registered nurses, and have worked in acute and community settings.  We all have experience of working in either adult or children’s nursing.  We also have a wide variety of experience in teaching and have qualifications in teaching and learning (e.g. PGCE).  More recently, we have also gained wider experience supporting learners across all health care professions.  We have presented at various local, national and international conferences, and have won national awards for our Inter-professional Learning Developments.  Members of the team also have also published some of their work in relevant healthcare journals.

How to Use the Service

The PEFs are here to offer support and guidance to the educators and students during their clinical placements.

All the PEFs work together as a team and provide cover for each other if a PEF is not available.  We have an open-door policy, and are keen to be as accessible as possible, so that we can offer advice and answer queries in a timely manner.  We are also keen to provide general advice relating to educational issues and resources.

For staff and students currently on base in the trust, we also have a microsite on the trust intranet, which can be used when students are on placement. These can both be found under ‘M’ on the trust intranet A-Z list. Please note, these microsites may only be accessed by trust staff and from a trust site.
