We are a friendly team of nurses and a secretary who can you support you with bladder and bowel problems.

Before your appointment you may be sent an assessment and chart to fill in. You may be offered investigations, such as a bladder scan and physical examination. This helps us to find out what is causing your symptoms

Once we understand them, we can work with you to design a treatment plan for you to follow. This may include lifestyle changes, exercises, medication and advice on how to manage the problem.

Morning and afternoon appointments are offered across Stockport at:

  •  Abacus Children`s Centre, Adswood
  • Cheadle Hulme Health Centre
  • Heaton Norris Health Centre
  • Marple Health Centre
  • Woodley Health Centre.

We will always try to offer you an appointment that suits you. If you are housebound we can arrange to visit you at home, but please note that this may take longer to arrange. We can also arrange and interpreter and/or chaperone upon request.

Our Expertise

Our nurses have a wealth of experience in bladder and bowel conditions and recognise the impact that this can have on your quality of life. We offer treatment and mangement options that will build your confidence and maintain your dignity. We understand that this may be the first time that you have talked to someone about this, and try to make this discussion as comfortable as possible for you.

How to Use the Service

You can be referred to the service by:

  • Your General Practitioner
  • Telephoning us directly to make a self-referral
  • Another healthcare professional, such as your Social Worker or Physiotherapist

Please note that all referrals are triaged when they come into the service. If you are under 19, do not have a Stockport General Practitioner or if we feel it is better for you, we may refer you onto a more appropriate service. If you are housebound, the nurses may ask your local District Nursing team to carry out your continence assessment.

At your first appointment please allow up to 45 minutes for a full continence assessment.  You will be asked to bring a sample of urine and a chart which will be sent with your appointment letter.  Following this assessment you will be a offered a treatment pathway and a nurse will support you throughout.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions.

We look forward to seeing you.
