The Stockport Perinatal Pelvic Health Service provides specialist care for women and birthing people during pregnancy and up to one year after birth. Our aim is to help prevent, identify, and treat pelvic health problems early, supporting your recovery and long-term wellbeing.
What we do
Our team includes specialist pelvic health physiotherapists, midwives, and other healthcare professionals who work together to provide:
- Advice on protecting your pelvic health during pregnancy and after birth
- Treatment of pelvic floor problems such as leakage, pain or prolapse
- Guidance on safe exercise and post-natal rehabilitation
- Support with birth planning if you have existing pelvic health concerns.
You may be offered:
- symptom specific advice
- an online or face to face group workshop
- or a one-to-one appointment
Who can use this service?
You can access our service if you are pregnant and giving birth in Stockport or within 12 months after giving birth, and have symptoms such as:
- Pregnancy related Pelvic girdle pain (pain in and around the joints of the pelvis)
- Leaking urine (urinary incontinence)
- Bladder urgency or frequency (overactive bladder)
- Problems emptying your bladder
- Leaking stool/wind (faecal incontinence, flatus incontinence)
- Difficulty emptying your bowel (constipation)
- A feeling of heaviness, bulge into vagina (pelvic organ prolapse)
- Perineal tears (including 3rd and 4th degree tears)
- Perineal wound problems, slow healing, wound breakdown
- Perineal scar pain
- Sexual pain during or after sex (dyspareunia)
- Separation of the tummy muscles (Diastasis recti)
