Two members of the Stockport NHS catering team have made it through to the final round of the biggest title in healthcare catering – NHS Chef of the Year.
Chef Owen Stafford (3rd left on photo) and retail assistant Lauren Carter (far left on photo) saw off a number of contestants in the competition run by NHS England to find the best in NHS catering.
Now in its sixth year, the competition showcases the vital role chefs play in patient care, recovery and experience, using their skills, creativity and dedication to deliver nutritious, high-quality food in often challenging environments.
The pair follow in a long tradition of good performance in the competition from the Stockport NHS team , with Stockport chef Joe Omolo the joint winner of the title last year.
The team, including chefs and catering assistants, provides quality food for both Stepping Hill Hospital’s inpatients on the wards, and for staff, visitors and outpatients in its restaurant.

The national final will take place in Birmingham ‘s Edgbaston Cricket Ground in October where the eight finalists will compete to be crowned the NHS Chef of the Year winners for 2026.
