Richard Dawson was not initially keen on a party for his 80th birthday, but he warmed to the idea and saw a chance to turn his own celebration into something special for others.
The local man and his wife Pam raised a fantastic £778 to help enhance the environment and care for patients receiving cancer treatment at Stepping Hill Hospital.
Surrounded by family, friends and loved ones at a party at home, Richard marked the milestone by asking for donations to Stockport NHS Charity, the official charity for Stockport NHS Foundation Trust. For the couple, it was an opportunity to bring people together while supporting local people receiving care.
Kate Leadbeater, Charity Manager at Stockport NHS Charity, said: “A heartfelt thank you to Richard and Pam, and to everyone who donated, for supporting local people receiving cancer care at Stepping Hill Hospital. Choosing to help others while celebrating such a special birthday is a wonderful act of caring and kindness.
Richard and Pam’s caring is a heartfelt reminder that a personal milestone can also be an opportunity to help others, turning a special celebration into an act of kindness. We are so grateful.”
