The Mounting Stone real ale bar in Bramhall recently hosted a successful charity golf day in support of Stockport NHS Charity’s Neonatal Unit Incubator Appeal. The event was kindly organised by customer Graham Travis, with catering generously provided by his wife Janet Travis, and prizes and drinks donated by Andrew O’Shea of The Mounting Stone.
31 golfers took part, coming together to raise vital funds for the appeal. The cause is especially close to Graham and Janet’s hearts, as their grandson, Roman, received specialist care on the Neonatal Unit at Stepping Hill Hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Roman’s dad, John, a graphic designer, also played a special part in supporting the day by creating the professional posters used to advertise the event and encourage support.
At the cheque presentation, Roman and his mum, Rebecca, were present to share their family’s moving experience. Rebecca spoke with heartfelt gratitude about the exceptional care Roman received from the neonatal team. Following his birth, Roman needed immediate support with his breathing and spent two weeks being cared for on the unit. During this difficult and uncertain time, the dedication, expertise and compassion of the neonatal staff gave invaluable comfort and support to the whole family.
Today, Roman who aged five is thriving, and his story is a powerful reminder of the
life-changing difference neonatal services make for local babies and their families. While Roman was receiving treatment, his big sister Audrey waited eagerly at home for the special day she could finally meet her new baby brother.
The kindness and generosity shown by everyone involved in the golf day will help ensure that babies and families who need neonatal care continue to receive the very best support, comfort and specialist equipment when they need it most.
Kate Leadbeater, Charity Manager at Stockport NHS Charity said ; “On behalf of Stockport NHS Charity, I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Andrew O’Shea from The Mounting Stone, Graham and Janet Travis, and every person who helped make this charity golf day such a success.
Every donation to our Neonatal Unit Incubator Appeal has the power to help families at one of the most vulnerable and emotional times in their lives. We are so touched by the generosity shown through this charity golf day and by the personal connection Roman’s family has shared with us. Their story brings home just how precious this care is, and how much of a lasting difference our community can make when we come together for local babies and their families.”
