Whilst they are employed by the trust, they have a high degree of independence to challenge, feedback and intervene. The Guardian is not part of the management structure, instead they stand alone and can if necessary, feed in directly to the Chief Executive, the Directors and the Board.
When things go wrong, we need to make sure that lessons are learnt, and things are improved. If staff think something might go wrong, it’s important that they all feel able to speak up to stop potential harm occurring.
Even when things are good, but could be even better, all colleagues should be able to say something and be confident that suggestions will be used as an opportunity for improvement.
There are various channels for speaking up, including speaking with managers or union representatives. However the Freedom to Speak Up Guardian will provide a totally confidential ear for any serious concerns across all of our sites.
