Our team, based in the community, are specialist professionals trained in the treatment of conditions affecting the feet and lower legs, and provide expertise in preventing and treating ulcerations and other conditions affecting the feet.

About our service

The podiatry service provides care across Stockport, providing podiatry support to both adults and children.

We work closely other community services such as district nursing, orthotics, MSK physio and GPs. We also work closely with vascular and diabetes colleagues within Stepping Hill Hospital as part of the multidisciplinary team.

We offer

• Appropriate assessment and treatment of those referred with Podiatry needs.
• Specialist prevention and education for our patients.
• A specialist children’s clinic that runs daily.
• Our clinics run five days a week across Stockport and within Stepping Hill Hospital.
• We also have a high-risk foot team dealing with complex podiatry needs and an MSK Podiatry team specialising in the biomechanics of the foot.

The service operates a self-referral system, we do also receive referrals from other health professionals and other services.

Our expertise

Our podiatrists have many years of experience in the profession, leading to excellent knowledge of all conditions. This includes full lower limb anatomy, biomechanics and specialist knowledge of medical conditions associated with the foot.

Podiatry can help with the treatment and reduce symptoms related to:

• Diabetes
• Vascular problems
• Achilles problems
• Plantar Fasciitis
• Biomechanical foot problems
• Infected Ingrowing toenails

During your visit

No matter the reason for you visit the podiatrist will always start with a discussion about the problem you are presenting with, and how it is affecting you and the activities you want to perform.

The podiatrist will ask you questions to understand your clinical history, your expectations and your goals. With your permission they will then carry out a physical assessment, which may include gait analysis, movement of the feet / lower limb or a full assessment of the presenting problem.

The podiatrist will then discuss with you any appropriate treatment or advice before agreeing an appropriate plan.

After your visit

After your initial appointment, you may be discharged or advised to rebook for further treatment, if appropriate.
