Stockport Sexual Health service is based in the community. It provides free contraception, sexual health testing, advice and treatment in a confidential way.
Our clinics are friendly and confidential and offer advice for all issues relating to sexual health.
About Our Service
The Stockport Sexual Health provides both doctor and nurse led sessions on a daily basis. Our aim is to provide an efficient sexual health service which everybody feels confident using. Practicing safer sex and using condoms may protect you from sexually transmitted infections.
We offer a range of contraceptive methods (pills, implants, injections, coils, emergency contraception, caps and diaphragm fits and condoms) as well as advice, information, testing and treatment of all sexually transmitted infections including HIV.
- Contact tracing
- Pregnancy testing
- Unplanned pregnancy advice and referral
- Cervical screening (smear test)
- Advice and counselling following sexual assault
- Youth Advice service / Counselling service
Please note, procedures like implants and coils require a further appointment for fitting after initial consultation. Care is provided by a dedicated team of doctors, nurses, and health advisers and interpreters can be arranged if necessary, with prior notice.
We will ensure that your visit to the clinic is as quick and as comfortable as possible. Should any delays occur during your visit an explanation will be given. It is expected that most new patients attending will spend approximately 1.5 hours in clinic. Preliminary results of some investigations may be available before you leave the department, depending on the reason for your attendance.
Where are we located?
Two main clinics are located in Stockport Town Centre. One is a Central Youth service (for under 25s only) and the other is The Choices Centre for all age groups.
A third clinic is in Adswood at the Abacus Centre, and is for all age groups and which only runs on a Friday morning.
How To Use The Service
We provide for the common sexually transmitted infections such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea and syphilis, treatment for genital herpes and genital warts, treatment for other genital infections such as thrush, advice on sexual health, testing for HIV and hepatitis B (if indicated), vaccination for hepatitis B (if indicated) as well as specialist treatment for those who are HIV positive.
All treatments provided by the service are free of charge and dispensed on site. Occasionally, if items are out of stock you will be given a prescription to attend the hospital pharmacy (free of charge).
