Library Services
Athens (OpenAthens)
Many of the electronic resources (including the databases and e-journals) require an Athens username and password for access. You can self-register for Athens from an NHS machine. Go to https://openathens.nice.org.uk/ Contact the library on 0161 419 5809 or email library.enquiries@stockport.nhs.uk (1 working day response time). Bulletins
A library newsletter is send out quarterly to all enrolled library members. It can also be accessed by clicking here
Want to know what other Trusts are doing in your area of interest or have the latest reports that interest you? Why not ask to be added to our very popular subject alerting service by emailing library.enquiries@stockport.nhs.uk with a subject of `For the attention of the library manager`. The emails we send you will be specific to your area of interest. It is important to keep up to date, as such information can help you improve services or patient care.
Electronic resources
Excellent online resources are available, such as UpToDate and Dynamed (for all clinical staff), Royal Marsden (for nursing staff in particular) and Medical Masterclass (for staff sitting Royal College of Physicians examinations). See the Links page
Electronic tables of content (E-tocs)
E-tocs are e-mail alerts letting you know that there’s a new issue of a journal, and listing the contents for that issue. The e-mail will tell you whether the journal is available electronically, in print in the library, or if we can order articles for you. We can provide the e-tocs service for almost all journals - all you need to do is tell us which journals you’re interested in. Simply e-mail your request list to library.enquiries@stockport.nhs.uk (1 working day response time).
Enquiry service
The Library`s enquiry service is freely available to everyone who works for Stockport NHS Foundation Trust or is a student on placement at the Trust. Do ask if you are uncertain how to use a resource, unable to locate a resource, not sure about a library service or are perplexed by the whole ‘library thing’. We are here to support you, whatever your location or job role.
Make an enquiry;
(If the phone is not answered within 10 rings, you will be connected to voicemail. This, and emails will be responded to within 1 working day)

You can expect a maximum of 7 working day turn round on this although it is often much quicker. Do let us know if your request is urgent and we will try to get it the same day.

Literature searching
Often it`s difficult to find the time to do a literature search. If you need to find some information to support your clinical practice and non-clinical management decision-making, you can ask for a search to be carried out on your behalf. The search will be completed by a qualified librarian in a time limit set by you.
To request a search you will need to complete the literature search request form or telephone the library on 0161 419 5809.
Please note - we cannot carry out searches to support course work!
