The positive work of a refugee volunteer who supports her colleagues at Stepping Hill Hospital is going under the spotlight from the United Nations.
Hadir Abualhayjaa was an asylum seeker from Iraq, who had to flee from violent threats to her life in the country. She settled into the UK around a year ago with the assistance of UN refugee agency, the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees), as part of their Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme.
Hadir now works as a volunteer at Stepping Hill Hospital’s haematology outpatients clinic, where she helps the nursing, medical and admin staff transport and process patients records. She had previously studied as a biologist back in Iraq.
The UNHCR sent a team to visit Hadir and to film her at work at hospital as part of their research into the settlement scheme, which will be promoted via their social media.
