Stroke unit staff joined with patients and families past and present to say goodbye to ward clerk Linda Mair as she retired today.
Linda started her career as a student nurse at Stepping Hill Hospital back in 1970. Since then she worked elsewhere but returned to the hospital’s stroke unit as a ward clerk 11 years ago.
In recent years Linda has taken the lead on fundraising for the stroke unit, assisting in the raising of over £19,000 in donations, and helping to organise the unit’s sensory gardens, which opened for the public in 2015. The garden is a calming and therapeutic environment, specially designed to be accessible to stroke survivors, and part of what was confirmed last year by the Stroke Sentinel Audit Commission as the top stroke unit in the country.
Linda was very moved by the send-off which saw dozens wish her all the best for her retirement.
