Celebrate Stockport’s pandemic heroes in the new Health and Care Awards

23 Aug 2021 - Press Release

Nominations are now open for the first Stockport Health and Care Awards to celebrate the contribution of health and care staff, and volunteers, who have supported the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Organised by Stockport Council, Stockport Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, the awards recognise the contribution of anyone who has worked, or volunteered, for a Stockport health and care organisation during the pandemic.

Throughout the pandemic, staff and volunteers across Stockport have come together to go above and beyond, both at work and in the community, demonstrating a commitment to the ethos of One Stockport.

Categories include:

  • Collaborative Award - for teams that have worked together to produce great results.
  • Community Award – for those who have played a key role in supporting their communities.
  • Inclusion Award - to recognise people who have worked hard to include otherwise under-represented communities.
  • Innovation Award – for those who have challenged the ‘way we do things’ and brought fresh ideas to the way they work.
  • Key Worker Award – for those working in an essential role during the lockdowns of March 2020 and beyond.
  • Leadership Award – for leaders at any level.
  • Learner Award – for students or trainees completing studies during the pandemic.
  • Rising Stars Award – for those under 21 who have made a significant contribution during the pandemic.
  • Volunteer Award - for those working as part of a voluntary organisation.
  • Wellbeing Award – for those who have championed physical and mental wellbeing.

Anyone who lives or works in Stockport can nominate a volunteer or health and care worker for an award, in recognition of their work supporting the pandemic.

Simply click the online submission form, choose a category and provide a short summary of why they deserve to win. You can nominate as many times as you like, but you will need to complete a new nomination form for each candidate. Nominations are open until Thursday, 30 September, 2021.

Winners will be chosen by an independent panel of judges and announced at a prize-giving ceremony on Tuesday, 23, November, 2021. All shortlisted nominees will be invited to attend.

Councillor Jude Wells, Cabinet Member for Adult Care and Health at Stockport Council, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to nominate any colleagues, members of your community and local health and care workers who you feel have contributed to making the pandemic that little bit easier for everyone. There are categories for key workers, volunteers and young people, amongst others, so there really is something for everyone at the Health and Care Awards.

“I’ve been incredibly proud to see the way that Stockport has pulled together during the past 18 months and this is a small way to say ‘thank you’ to those who have been working so hard for our community during the pandemic.”

Dr Cath Munro, Chair of Stockport CCG, added: “One Stockport is all about our communities and how we can work together to make Stockport the very best place to live and work. Our health and care professionals have certainly demonstrated this during the pandemic, finding ways to work across organisational boundaries to deliver great outcomes for the people of Stockport.

“These awards are a great opportunity to recognise the incredible achievements of Stockport’s health and care workers and volunteers.”

Karen James OBE, Chief Executive for Stockport NHS Foundation Trust said “The past eighteen months have been perhaps the most challenging our health and social care services have ever faced.

“All our workforce across our services have responded brilliantly to this challenge, continuing to provide the best possible care during the toughest of circumstances. I’m delighted these awards have been introduced to give people the chance to show their appreciation, and I would urge anyone who wants to show their thanks to take part.”
