About Our Service

Welcome to the Stockport Safeguarding Team for Children and Vulnerable Adults. The safeguarding service is a service that works in partnership with other agencies to ensure children and vulnerable adultswho are open to our services remain protected and safeguarded.

Stockport NHS Foundation Trust takes its responsibility to safeguard children very seriously. In our commitment to protect vulnerable children from abuse or neglect we work closely with our partner agencies in children’s social care, education, the police and others where necessary.

We train all our staff according to national guidance, to enable them to recognize and respond to children where there are safeguarding concerns. This may also involve considering how the behaviour /ill health of adult parents/carers can affect the children in a family. Staff are trained to the levels of skill and competence according to their role.

We have Specialist Safeguarding Children nursing teams and paediatricians to support hospital and community staff in Stockport and Tameside. We also have a specialist nursing and paediatric team who work closely addressing and coordinating the health needs of Looked after Children.

Stockport NHS Foundation Trust also recognizes the need to protect children from potential harm where allegations have been made against those staff who work with children. In any such cases there is a policy to follow which may involve working closely with a lead officer in children’s social care.

Information leaflets on safeguarding are available on the linked page here.
