About Our Service

Welcome to the Outpatient Services. We offer access to specialised consultants upon referral from your GP. We host over 25 specialities of both medical and surgical orientation in a number of clinic areas accross the site.

The service is available to anyone who has been referred for specialised care from their GP.  Your GP will refer you to a consultant either by using the NHS Choose and Book system where as the patient you can choose which hospital you wish to attend or directly to a specific hospital.  Either way you will receive a letter through the post or digitally with your unique reference number and a centralised telephone number to call to make your appointment.  Please note this appointment is provisional and subject to approval by the consultant, but all changes will be communicated with you via letter or telephone.

Main Out Patient areas have a shop on site.  All areas of Out Patients have toilet facilities (with disabled access) and provide water chilled or at room temperature.

All Out Patient waiting areas and clinics are staffed by qualified nurses and healthcare professionals ensuring you receive the highest quality care throughout your time with us.  There are two main Outpatient Departments (OPDA & OPDB) and four smaller areas (Bobby Moore Unit, Chest Clinic, Lilac Suite and Outpatients C Department).

Patients who make second appointment cancellations are referred back to their GP.

If you have a disability or special requirement that may need adjustment to our services then please contact either the department sisters or manager by either telephone or email as stated below.

For information on infection control measures to stop the spread of COVID-19, see the COVID-19 Outpatients page.

Our Expertise

Customer Service Excellence Award (CSE) – Our outpatient service has been accredited with the CSE award for the past four years and we are currently working towards our fifth year. This demonstrates that we take customer service very seriously and are always looking for ways to improve our service to you.

Dignity & Respect Standards – Our department was the first within the Stockport NHS Foundation Trust to produce their own standards relevant to the area. We have highly trained dignity & respect champions who ensure staff are trained to provide patients with the best possible care.

How to Use the Service

When you visit please bring all documentation relating to your appointment and a list of any medication you are taking.  If you are unsure of the department location there is an information point located in the hospital main reception in oak house.

During your visit you will need to confirm your personal details and you may be required to complete questionnaires relating to your condition or attend X-ray or for blood tests before your consultation.

After your visit you may require a follow up appointment, it may be possibel to make this  immediately after your appointment at reception or an appointment invitation may be sent to you by letter. If you are to be listed for surgery you may attend a pre-op appointment in Magnolia Suite on the main corridor.

APPOINTMENT MANAGEMENT

There are now a number of ways in which your care and appointments can be managed and these could include:

  • Follow up appointments initiated by patients as and when required (known as patient initiated follow ups PIFU)
  • Via telephone or video.

Your consultant or the member of team you see will discuss these options with you if either you or they feel they are right for you.

Please see the video below for further information
