How to Use the Service

Before your visit

  • A referral is received in the department, this is scanned into the Hospital`s ERM (Electronic Referral Management System) which allows the clinician to view the information provided quickly and make a clinical judgement about the level of urgency or if the referral is appropriate.
  • If your appointment is booked via the Electronic Referral system the clinician will assess your referral to confirm that your appointment is appropriate. Following this your appointment will be confirmed by the hospital .
  • If further appointments need to be made in line with the referral i.e. orthoptic tests, audiology or lung function, these will be considered
  • A member of staff will make an appointment for you ,considering any clinical advice and an appointment will be sent out to you via a link to the mobile phone you have to access a patient portal, if you do not have a mobile you will get a letter to your address. On your letter you will notice that there are various ways your appointment maybe conducted, either face to face at the hospital, a telephone consultation or a video consultation. This will be indicated on your letter with any relevant links or leaflets . If you need to change your personal information especially your contact information we require 48 hours notice to enable us to convey this to the clinician prior to your appointment.
  • If the appointment date and time is within 1 week the appointment will be made by phone, therefore it is important that we are always informed about any changes to your personal details.
  • The hospital has a service that will remind patients accessing certain clinics of the appointment time and date, it will ask you to confirm you are going to attend.
