About Our Service

Welcome to ENT (ear, nose and throat service) at Stepping Hill Hospital. We provide a friendly and efficient ENT service to the people of Stockport, Derbyshire and High Peak.   We also offer a (General Adult & Children) clinic in Buxton.

We also have a comprehensive Audiology service - see http://www.stockport.nhs.uk/serviceview/14/audiology

At the heart of the service is a dedicated team of staff who provide a nationally recognised personal service in dealing with all ENT emergencies and non- emergency care.

The Stepping Hill ENT department is closely linked with University Hospital of South Manchester Foundation Trust (UHSM). At weekends we jointly provide emergency care for the Wythenshawe, Stockport, and Macclesfield residents via each respective Accident and Emergency Department.

If you have been referred to us we will endeavour to provide the very best treatment for you.

The ENT service we provide is based at Stepping Hill Hospital.   Referrals for appointments are made by your General Practitioner via the choose & book system

We offer the following General ENT clinics:-

  • Rapid access clinic – a dedicated emergency service for all ENT symptoms accessed via GP choose and book or the Accident and Emergency Department.
  • General Adult & Children ENT clinics – which offers care for all paediatric ENT conditions and all general ENT adult conditions.

Most of the ENT Operations are offered for adults and children. The majority of the procedures are day case, and hence the patient will not require an overnight stay. The in-patient stay is in a dedicated 5 day surgical short-stay unit which is open Mon – Fri.

We also offer specialised clinics:

How to Use the Service

Clinics are booked via the GP choose and book system.

Before your visit, if it is for the first time, see enclosed directions to the hospital and locate the area that you want to visit, or see below.  Please bring a list of medications you take.

The clinical appointment, involves initially registering at the reception desk, if required a hearing test, then being called through to see the doctor where the consultation takes place.  A number of procedures are performed in the clinic depending on the reason for your visit, (nasendoscopy, ear micro suction, FNA (fine needle aspiration), grommet insertion, skin biopsy or blood taken for investigation).

Information sheets are given for procedures and investigations ordered. There will also be a number of forms that will need completing in order to help us with the management of your condition. If you wish you may ask for a copy of your clinic letter to be sent to you.

Hospital Admission

The admission letter should provide instructions concerning what to bring and when to stop eating and drinking before your procedure. On discharge clear post-operative instructions are provided with a discharge letter for you explaining follow up instructions.

Visit the Magnolia Department, the Short Stay Unit, Maple Suite or Tree house(paediatric unit) for your admission on the day of your operation.
