About Our Service

Who we are

All our physiotherapists are HCPC registered (Health Care Professions Council) and are Members of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy. We have staff trained to Masters Level/ equivalent and have a wealth of experience and expertise in many specialities.

We aim to provide a high quality service for children and young people in the most appropriate setting for their needs that is effective, efficient and underpinned by evidence based practice

How we work

Physiotherapists work in partnership with other professionals and agencies to ensure a fully co-ordinated approach.  We aim to reduce the impact of physical impairments on all aspects of growth, development and social interaction

As well as providing physiotherapy treatment, we train those around the child/young person to carry out physiotherapy programmes and postural management throughout the day.

What we do

Early assessment and treatment is essential for children with, or at risk of, neurological or developmental problems.  This will maximise their potential and promote physical and neurological development to reach specific milestones (e.g. rolling, crawling and walking).

After accepting a referral, we will offer an initial assessment of the child’s needs in order to make recommendation and an action plan.  Physiotherapy interventions may include:

  • Promoting normal gross motor development
  • Neurodevelopmental treatment including low load active and passive stretching and muscle strengthening therapy
  • Serial casting for neurodevelopmental conditions
  • Hydrotherapy
  • Postural management
  • Equipment provision for standing, walking and sleeping
  • Advice and support for parents, carers and teachers
  • Overseeing provision of specialist footwear/ orthotics/ postural and mobility equipment
  • Neonatal physiotherapy
  • Cystic Fibrosis Shared care with Royal Manchester Children`s Hospital

Where we are based

We work in various community settings; homes, nurseries, schools, leisure centres and any other venues that would benefit the child.

The main sites for our clinic based services are:

  • Beckwith House
  • Children’s Treehouse at Stepping Hill Hospital.
  • Startwell Clinics in the community
