THE AUDIOLOGY DEPARTMENT IS NOT CLOSING

We no longer provide hearing aids for adults in Stockport. If you are within the 3 year care pathway you will continue to be seen at Stepping Hill Hospital until you are at the end of your 3 year care pathway. If you are not sure if you are within the 3 year pathway please email the department to check:

audiology@stockport.nhs.uk

If you are out of the three year care pathway, we are no longer able to continue with your hearing aid care, this includes batteries and tubing. The free of charge NHS service will still continue but will be delivered by different providers

If you are out of your 3 year care pathway please contact your GP surgery at your earliest convenience as you will now need to speak to your GP to discuss referral to a new provider. Please be aware there will be a choice of provider and you can choose the most convenient for you.

NO OTHER AUDIOLOGY SERVICES ARE AFFECTED

How to Use the Service

Before your visit

If you wish to read more about what will happen during your upcoming appoinment there are leaflets available on the Patient Information Leaflets page of the hospital website: http://www.stockport.nhs.uk/patientinformationleaflets

If you are coming for a hearing assessment, your ears will need to be clear of wax, so have your ears checked by your GP or practice nurse before your appointment. You will be sent a letter with details of your audiology appointment. Please let us know if you need an interpreter or have other communication needs.

During your visit

The audiologist will ask about your hearing problems past and present.  Your ears will be examined and a full hearing test completed. The audiologist will then discuss with you the next steps of your treatment. You are welcome to bring a friend or family member to your appointment.

After your visit

You will receive a written care plan confirming the next steps. For example, you may need to be referred to ear, nose and throat, or you may have decided to have hearing aids fitted.  Once hearing aids are fitted, we offer a booked appointment system for all hearing aid maintenance and support.
