William Wragg MP met nurses working in Stepping Hill Hospital’s busy A&E department and a dementia ward when he visited Stepping Hill Hospital.
The MP for Hazel Grove also received a quick flu vaccination as he toured the ambulatory care unit, which sees patients coming into A&E who don’t need to be admitted to a hospital ward. Staff at the hospital are currently receiving flu jabs to help protect patients from the dangerous virus, especially over winter.
In ward E2, which has many patients with dementia, Mr Wragg heard about the hospital’s initiatives to improve services for the elderly. These include dementia friendly patient bays on wards, food trolleys with special plates for patients needing assistance and reminiscence rooms in ward areas to help calm patients. He also visited the hospital’s dementia café which recently opened for patients and their carers thanks to a fundraising campaign.
William Wragg said, "It was good meeting Adrian Belton, the new Chair, to talk about plans to take the organisation forward. I was also pleased to hear that a lot of work is taking place to improve waiting times in A&E, with good results over the last few days.
“The quality of care the hospital is providing for dementia patients was evident, as well as support for carers which is an important aspect. I’m also impressed all the staff are getting flu jabs to help protect patients, and encourage everyone who is eligible for the vaccine to make sure they get it. ”
